First Scarlatti Sonata in E major
In Five Steps Ahead, the main character, Robert, with his friend Hal in tow, goes to the home of his love interest, Carolyn. Caroyn has a building behind her house fitted out as a music studio with two pianos (one upright, one grand).
Robert learned piano from Carolyn as a boy in this music studio, but now he's an adult. Carolyn is unaware of this and doesn't know the extent of Robert's ability to play piano.
So when Robert plays this sonata by Scarlatti, Carolyn is shocked and says he lied to her about "dabbling".
This begins a sequence where they "battle" at the pianos, each playing part of a classical piece, followed by the other.
