Second Scarlatti Sonata in E major
In Five Steps Ahead, the main character, Robert and his friend Hal, visit Carolyn, who has a music studio behind her house. Robert and Carolyn each sit at one of the two pianos and take turns playing parts of classical pieces. This is the same studio where Robert leaned piano from Carolyn as a boy. But she is unaware he was her student.
After Robert plays a sonata by Scarlatti on the grand piano, Carolyn responds by playing another Scarlatti sonata, but on the upright. Robert comments that it sounds hideous on an upright.
